André MAIRE
André MAIRE : Né en 1898. Mort en 1984. XXe siècle. Français.
Peintre de figures, animaux, paysages, architectures, intérieurs, peintre à la gouache, aquarelliste, dessinateur, décorateur.
Il fut l’élève du peintre André Devambez à l’école des Beaux-Arts en 1917. Mobilisé, il effectue son service militaire en Indochine et enseigne parallèlement le dessin au lycée français de Saigon. Il fait de nombreux croquis du site d’Angkor, qui seront précieux lors de la reconstitution du temple pour l’Exposition Coloniale de 1931. Il séjourne deux ans en Italie, où il peint de nombreuses vues de Venise. Entre 1938 et 1945, il parcourt l’Egypte, l’Inde, Ceylan, l’Afrique. De 1948 à 1955, il enseigne le dessin et le modelage à l’Ecole d’architecture de Saigon. Doué d’un sens décoratif très sûr, il a surtout montré de rapides notations, gouaches et sépias, rapportées de ses voyages.
